Answers to all of your questions about concert season

What is concert season?

Following marching season, the band year looks much more similar to middle school band. We will have four concerts per year - Winter Concert in December, Mid-Winter Concert in February, Pre-UIL Concert in late March, and Spring Concert in May. The band also participates in the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading evaluation process, which is like the music ensemble version of the STAAR Test. Each band will perform at the UIL evaluations and receive a rating from an esteemed panel of music professionals..

Do parents attend the UIL evaluations?

Yes! Parents are encouraged to attend. These are often during the work day so we will typically offer a Pre-UIL performance in the evening leading up to the event and parents are invited to attend this as well.

What do the students wear for concerts?

The students have specific concert attire. All students will wear a suit provided by the program and students will be fitted for those in the fall. Students will purchase the dress shirt and tie or blouse combo worn with the suit. If a student wishes to instead wear a dress, they may opt to provide their own, so long as it’s floor length, ¾ length sleeves, and solid black - this must be approved by Mr. Wallis.

Will meals be provided?

Yes, 1 meal will be provided on competition days as a part of your band dues. You should send snacks and concession stand money as well.

Should I clap and cheer for the band at the competition?

Yes!!!!! We encourage you to cheer for our band - especially DURING the performance!
