Answers to your basic questions regarding the band program.

How do parents stay informed?

  • Check the band calendar on our website for all of the important dates. Sync it to your own calendar to make it even easier.

  • Read the emails from Boosters and Band Directors. All important information will be sent via email. Boosters will send a monthly newsletter as well

  • Follow @FriscoPCHSBand on social media and join the FB group Frisco PCHS Band Fans

What is the time commitment for band?

Per UIL rules the band is only permitted to practice for 8 hours per week during the school year. Section leaders may encourage extra practice on their own outside of the full band rehearsal. These are optional but highly encouraged. During marching season, our band performs at the football games, which can be on either Thursday or Friday nights and competes in Marching Contests on Saturdays in October. The marching band also performs at all public spirit events, such as in-school pep rallies, Frisco Marching Band Showcase at The Star, and the Frisco Community Parade.

What is a marching instrument vs concert instrument?

For most musicians in the program, you will play the same instrument for concert band as for marching band. If you are an oboist or bassoonist (double reed), you have the option to choose learning a percussion instrument and performing in the Front Ensemble or learning alto saxophone. If you choose the Front Ensemble route, your band fees and instrument rental fee cover the cost of using the school’s percussion equipment. The program is unable to provide any saxophones to double reed performers who decide they want to play saxophone, thus you would be responsible for rental or purchase of a saxophone for marching season. If you are a school-owned instrument performer other than oboe or bassoon (bass clarinet, tenor/bari saxophone, french horn, bass trombone, euphonium, or tuba), you will be provided an additional “marching instrument” (marching bass clarinet, tenor/bari saxophone, mellophone, baritone, or sousaphone) at no extra cost to you.

What is Summer Band?

In order to prepare our show for marching season, students are required to attend marching practice during the last few weeks of the summer. Students will learn to march then begin learning drill and music for the show. Attendance is required and students should bring water, sunscreen, snacks and phones. Students should wear athletic shoes and shorts. Hats and sunglasses are recommended as well.

How do I volunteer?

We have so many different ways you can volunteer with the band. Check the Booster Page "The 22" on the website for details.
